Belly Dancing for Complete Beginners Time 1:00 PM

Are you ready for something exciting? Allison Schulte, licensed Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) specializing in pelvic health, is returning to The War Memorial to teach a weekly Belly Dance class! This class blends foundational belly dance technique with mindful, accessible movement designed for every body. We’ll explore hip work, shimmies, isolations, arm pathways, and fluid transitions while building coordination, posture, and confidence.

With over 25 years of experience, Allison will guide you through each movement with clear breakdowns, gentle progressions, and an emphasis on body awareness. You’ll deepen core connection, improve balance, release tension, and discover the joy of expressive movement in a supportive space.

Art Therapy For All Time 10:00 AM Art Therapist Erin Shahly, MEd, ATR, will host an interactive therapeutic art workshop. We’ll focus on self-expression and self-discovery. There is no experience necessary to participate, all are welcome. We will come together to create meaningful worksof art that will provide a creative outlet and promote relaxation. Hatha Yoga Time 10:00 AM Facilitated by Susan Clayton, Hatha yoga is a traditional form of yoga that focuses on physical postures (asanas) and breathing exercises (pranayama). Yoga Nidra Relaxation Class Time 10:00 AM Join us for our new weekly yoga nidra class at the Clubhouse, with instructor Laura Lerman. Class will begin with 15-20 minutes of yoga stretches and breath work to relax and center you. Class will then participate in 30 minutes of guided yoga nidra, which is similar to a meditation. This is a very relaxing technique that helps relax the nervous system and relveive many stresses and anxieties. This method can be modified using a chair. Info & Registration

Sue Fabian Series: Medicare vs. Medicaid Time 5:30 PM Despite people’s familiarity with Medicare, there are important aspects of its coverage that if not known, can cost you tens of thousands of dollars, especially if you are hospitalized then go to a nursing home for rehabilitation. Some of these nooks and crannies in coverage are vital to know. Medicaid has less familiarity and it is a very confusing program. It’s basics are covered, especially nursing home coverage. Diamond Painting Time 10:30 AM Location Art Room

Diamond Painting is the name of a mosaic art form in which the artist creates a painting by sticking small resins that sparkle like diamonds on a canvas that has corresponding numbers printed by all the colors of the diamonds.

All the painter has to do is take a diamond and stick it onto the canvas. All the diamonds together create a beautiful painting that sparkles like real diamonds.

Gilda's Club will provide all the materials needed and store your diamond painting for you, so that you can join us every Monday for a therapeutic art form, and go home with a beautiful piece of art when you're done! Ages 16+ are welcome!

Hatha Chair Yoga Time 3:00 PM Chair Yoga offers the benefits of yoga increasing strength, flexibility, mobility, and balance with support and stability practiced on a chair. The session will focus on hatha yoga poses, breathwork, mindful movements, and meditation. Modifications will be offered throughout the practice to facilitate an inclusive practice and benefit students of all fitness levels. Cindy Melican has practiced yoga for over 20 years. Relax & Restore Yoga Time 4:00 PM Enter a state of deep relaxation and rest as you slow down and unwind in this floor-based gentle yoga class, focusing on stillness and breath. Jackie will guide you into passive poses, recommending the use of props to support you in whatever way your body needs. Research suggests that the regular practice of restorative yoga improves both psychological and physical well-being; calming the mind and helping to manage symptoms of pain and toxicity associated with cancer treatment. This practice is floor-based, and the movements are neither vigorous nor intense, however if you have concerns or questions about your ability to participate in this practice, please feel free to reach out to the Lake House for additional information. Natural Strategies for Cancer Care Time 5:00 PM

Please join Jennifer Gale, ND, as she brings her extensive knowledge to Gilda’s at The War Memorial to discuss various natural strategies for cancer care. This workshop will include discussions on nutrition, stress relief, and mind/body connection for healing. A light meal will be provided.

Recently Bereaved Group Time 6:30 PM

This is a support group for those who have recently lost a loved one to cancer. The recent loss of a family member or friend and the sudden feelings that come along can be devastating. This group connects you with others who can share in those recent transitions and hardships. It's led by a mental health clinician who can also connect you with various resources.

While this group is for those who have experienced loss within 6 months to a year, Gilda's Club also offers long term bereavement support. Once you are ready to transition to one of those groups, a Gilda's Club staff member will be happy to guide you.

Hatha Chair Yoga Time 3:00 PM Chair Yoga offers the benefits of yoga increasing strength, flexibility, mobility, and balance with support and stability practiced on a chair. The session will focus on hatha yoga poses, breathwork, mindful movements, and meditation. Modifications will be offered throughout the practice to facilitate an inclusive practice and benefit students of all fitness levels. Cindy Melican has practiced yoga for over 20 years. Registered with the Yoga Alliance, she completed her 200-hour teacher training at Namaste Yoga in Royal Oak and started her 300-hour teacher training program. Trained in hatha yoga, she enjoys guiding students in their practice of yoga, breathwork, and meditation while offering modifications throughout the practice to facilitate an accessible practice for everyone. Relax & Restore Yoga Time 4:00 PM Enter a state of deep relaxation and rest as you slow down and unwind in this floor-based gentle yoga class, focusing on stillness and breath. Jackie will guide you into passive poses, recommending the use of props to support you in whatever way your body needs. Research suggests that the regular practice of restorative yoga improves both psychological and physical well-being; calming the mind and helping to manage symptoms of pain and toxicity associated with cancer treatment. This practice is floor-based, and the movements are neither vigorous nor intense, however if you have concerns or questions about your ability to participate in this practice, please feel free to reach out to the Lake House for additional information. Grandparenting and Cancer Group Time 4:30 PM Grandparenting and Cancer is a group designed for grandparents who are either diagnosed themselves or have a grandchild diagnosed and are balancing treatment, emotional well being and family life. The group provides a safe and understanding environment to talk openly about the unique challenges of being a grandparent with cancer-such as changes in energy, communication with grandchildren, shifting family roles and feelings of guilt, grief or uncertainty. Parenting a Child With Cancer Time 6:00 PM A fever will never be just a fever, a bruise will never be just a bruise. This group brings together parents of children who have or had cancer and share this very unique journey. Share tips and tricks surrounding behavior, clinic/hospital visits, school, food, and so much more. Parents of childhood cancer survivors welcome as well. This groups is located at Kalasho Education and youth services in Warren with an online option via zoom. Pain Management Series - Part I Time 6:30 PM

Dr. Hall joins us to discuss the difference between new onset pain and pain that has ben present for over 3 months. The causes & origin of pain the body is not always as obvious as you may think. There are often various different measures and treatments available once you understand what exactly is happening and where, in your body!

Dr. Wednesday Hall D.O. is board-certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation as well as Interventional Pain Management. She grew up in California and moved to Florida to earn her Master’s Degree in Biomedical Science. She then attended the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine, where she obtained her medical degree. Following medical school, she completed her residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. To further specialize her expertise, Dr. Hall pursued advanced fellowship training in Interventional Pain Management. She moved to Michigan to practice and is excited to provide compassionate, patient-centered care to the community.

Sue Fabian Series: Funeral Pre-Planning Time 5:30 PM What took me two months to pre-plan my mother’s funeral is undertaken by most in two days in a state of deep grief and sleepwalking. Pre-planning your funeral is truly your last gift to your loved ones. This workshop will help you walk into any funeral home with basic knowledge of the traps that siphon your hard-earned dollars. I will also discuss alternatives to traditional funerals and propose a basic layout for a service. Handouts of the presentation will be available along with a one-page pre-planning document to let your heirs know of your preferences. A chart will also be provided to help you cost-compare in shopping around. All adults are encouraged to engage in this planning as part of your basic estate planning. Relax & Restore Yoga Time 4:00 PM Enter a state of deep relaxation and rest as you slow down and unwind in this floor-based gentle yoga class, focusing on stillness and breath. Jackie will guide you into passive poses, recommending the use of props to support you in whatever way your body needs. Research suggests that the regular practice of restorative yoga improves both psychological and physical well-being; calming the mind and helping to manage symptoms of pain and toxicity associated with cancer treatment. This is a support group for those who have recently lost a loved one to cancer. The recent loss of a family member or friend and the sudden feelings that come along can be devastating. This group connects you with others who can share in those recent transitions and hardships. It's led by a mental health clinician who can also connect you with various resources.

While this group is for those who have experienced loss within 6 months to a year, Gilda's Club also offers long term bereavement support. Once you are ready to transition to one of those groups, a Gilda's Club staff member will be happy to guide you.

On the Horizon Fiber Arts Group Time 1:00 PM Are you a knitter or crocheter? Do you want to be? The mindful, repetitive motions of knitting and crochet can help you reduce stress and anxiety and improve memory and focus…and the social benefits of crafting with a group can’t be beat! We invite new and experienced knitters and crocheters alike to join us at the War Memorial! A small amount of supplies for both knitting and crochet will be available or please feel free to bring your own if you prefer. Hatha Chair Yoga Time 3:00 PM Chair Yoga offers the benefits of yoga increasing strength, flexibility, mobility, and balance with support and stability practiced on a chair. The session will focus on hatha yoga poses, breathwork, mindful movements, and meditation. Modifications will be offered throughout the practice to facilitate an inclusive practice and benefit students of all fitness levels. Cindy Melican has practiced yoga for over 20 years. Registered with the Yoga Alliance, she completed her 200-hour teacher training at Namaste Yoga in Royal Oak and started her 300-hour teacher training program. Trained in hatha yoga, she enjoys guiding students in their practice of yoga, breathwork, and meditation while offering modifications throughout the practice to facilitate an accessible practice for everyone. Relax & Restore Yoga Time 4:00 PM Enter a state of deep relaxation and rest as you slow down and unwind in this floor-based gentle yoga class, focusing on stillness and breath. Jackie will guide you into passive poses, recommending the use of props to support you in whatever way your body needs. Research suggests that the regular practice of restorative yoga improves both psychological and physical well-being; calming the mind and helping to manage symptoms of pain and toxicity associated with cancer treatment. This practice is floor-based, and the movements are neither vigorous nor intense, however if you have concerns or questions about your ability to participate in this practice, please feel free to reach out to the Lake House for additional information. Little Kids, Big Feelings Group Time 5:30 PM 4th Tuesday of every month for kids who have a parent with cancer or have experienced cancer in some other way. This group is ideal for children ages 4-9. Parenting with Cancer Group Time 5:30 PM For parents undergoing treatment themselves or recently completed treatment. Parents will have an opportunity to share, learn, and support one another through their parenting journeys and all of the complexities that come with parenting with cancer. This welcoming group is facilitated by a licensed clinician. This group coincides with the “Little Kids, Big Feelings” group/playtime that takes place in the Noogieland play area. Tai Chi is an exercise form with its root from Traditional Chinese Medicine used to enhance healing energy and build life force also known as Qi (pronounced Chee). Are you ready for something exciting? Allison Schulte, licensed Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) specializing in pelvic health, is returning to The War Memorial to teach a weekly Belly Dance class! This class blends foundational belly dance technique with mindful, accessible movement designed for every body. We’ll explore hip work, shimmies, isolations, arm pathways, and fluid transitions while building coordination, posture, and confidence.

With over 25 years of experience, Allison will guide you through each movement with clear breakdowns, gentle progressions, and an emphasis on body awareness. You’ll deepen core connection, improve balance, release tension, and discover the joy of expressive movement in a supportive space.

No experience needed — just curiosity and a willingness to move. This class is certain to be a great workout and a lot of fun!

Noogieland Family Play Time 4:00 PM Noogieland will be open for free play for kids 12 and under! Hang out in our beautifully hand painted kids area, with wall to wall toys after school on Wednesdays. Kids must be accompanied by an adult unless a volunteer is requested before hand, in order for the adult to attend a program upstairs. Kids cannot be left unsupervised. Info & Registration

Travel with Gilda! Time 6:00 PM

Join us for our travel club celebrating expanding our horizons! Travel has been linked to stress reduction and can alleviate symptoms of anxiety and depression. We will “visit” a new location each month and immerse ourselves in the culture and food of our destination. Past club nights we have watched walking tours, learned about the history and culture of our location, and even tried authentic recipes! Get the jet setter experience with the Gilda’s Club Community, all without leaving metro Detroit.

Pain Management Series: Part II Time 6:30 PM

Dr. Hall joins us to discuss the difference between new onset pain and pain that has ben present for over 3 months. The causes & origin of pain the body is not always as obvious as you may think. There are often various different measures and treatments available once you understand what exactly is happening and where, in your body!

Dr. Wednesday Hall D.O. is board-certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation as well as Interventional Pain Management. She grew up in California and moved to Florida to earn her Master’s Degree in Biomedical Science. She then attended the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine, where she obtained her medical degree. Following medical school, she completed her residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. To further specialize her expertise, Dr. Hall pursued advanced fellowship training in Interventional Pain Management. She moved to Michigan to practice and is excited to provide compassionate, patient-centered care to the community.

An Evening of Improvised Comedy with Squatters Writes Time 7:30 PM Location Tipping Point Theatre: 361 E. Cady St, Northville, MI 48167

Based on audience suggestions, the cast of Squatters Writes will create a fully improvised two-act play. Featuring a veteran cast of actors and improvisers, this show uses the existing stage, set, props and lighting of the current production of  Gene & Gilda  at the Tipping Point Theatre to create a one night only performance without a script. Art Therapy For All Time 10:00 AM Art Therapist Erin Shahly, MEd, ATR, will host an interactive therapeutic art workshop. We’ll focus on self-expression and self-discovery. There is no experience necessary to participate, all are welcome. We will come together to create meaningful worksof art that will provide a creative outlet and promote relaxation. Yoga Nidra Relaxation Class Time 10:00 AM Join us for our new weekly yoga nidra class at the Clubhouse, with instructor Laura Lerman. Class will begin with 15-20 minutes of yoga stretches and breath work to relax and center you. Class will then participate in 30 minutes of guided yoga nidra, which is similar to a meditation. This is a very relaxing technique that helps relax the nervous system and relveive many stresses and anxieties. This method can be modified using a chair. Info & Registration

Sue Fabian Series: Joint Replacement Advocacy Time 5:30 PM Did you know that the opinion of the first surgeon may not be your best surgical option? Where do you even begin to evaluate surgeons for major surgeries such as knee replacement? Learn to ask key questions of the surgeon and be encouraged to get a second opinion before you hit the operating room. Learn the difference between partial vs total knee replacement and why the differences are important. Learn why getting the implant’s “make, model and year” is critical.
