Paying attention to what’s happening inside you….thoughts, emotions, and body sensations….in the present moment can make all the difference. With awareness, you’ll learn new and intentional responses to situations, communications, and relationships with yourself and others. The automatic and mindless reactions that are not serving you well will be replaced with new pathways leading to greater emotional, mental, and physical well-being. MBSR tools and techniques are accessible to all individuals, no matter the age and physical ability. Guided meditation, gentle movement and stretching, and small group discussion are experienced in each of the eight weekly classes.
Facilitated by Jan Miller LPC, you will be supported in any way you need throughout your journey. Alumni are welcome to attend as well!

C.A.P.A.B.L.E. Workshop

Gilda’s Club Metro Detroit has partnered with Karmanos Cancer Institute and Wayne State University to expand a study, titled C.A.P.A.B.L.E. (Cross-Training and Physical Activity: A Better Life Experience) to better understand physical activities that may be most beneficial to the mental and physical health of cancer survivors.
Participants in the study will be cancer survivors of all cancer types. We will ask participants to complete 3 surveys and 2 physical assessments while participating in 12 weeks of group fitness classes. Participants will not receive financial compensation. The sessions will take place 3 days a week for approximately 60 minutes per session. The program includes weight lifting, running/walking, stretching and other exercises to improve strength and cardiovascular fitness. An optional dietary program will also be offered, as will sleep health assessments.
To register potential participants can email CAPABLE@wayne.edu or call 313-578-4246. Participants will complete a short screener with one of our team members to verify eligibility and to discuss the best option for their medical clearance.

Cancer Transitions Series: Take Control of Your Survivorship & Staying Active

Cancer Transitions is a free 90-minute four-week workshop designed to help cancer survivors make the transition from active treatment to post-treatment care. This workshop is led by a Master Level Social Worker and Registered Dietician Nutritionist. This workshop will cover training in relaxation, stress management and tips for nutritious eating. While each session focuses on a specific skill set and topic, group support and reflective exercises are also incorporated into every session. To gain the full benefit of this program, we ask that you commit to attending all four sessions. Light healthy snacks will be served at each session. Registration is required to attend.

Gilda’s Club Metro Detroit has partnered with Karmanos Cancer Institute and Wayne State University to expand a study, titled C.A.P.A.B.L.E. (Cross-Training and Physical Activity: A Better Life Experience) to better understand physical activities that may be most beneficial to the mental and physical health of cancer survivors.
Participants in the study will be cancer survivors of all cancer types. We will ask participants to complete 3 surveys and 2 physical assessments while participating in 12 weeks of group fitness classes. Participants will receive a $100 gift card for completing the program. The sessions will take place 3 days a week for approximately 60 minutes per session. The program includes weight lifting, running/walking, stretching and other exercises to improve strength and cardiovascular fitness. An optional dietary program will also be offered, as will sleep health assessments.

Gilda’s Club Metro Detroit has partnered with Karmanos Cancer Institute and Wayne State University to expand a study, titled C.A.P.A.B.L.E. (Cross-Training and Physical Activity: A Better Life Experience) to better understand physical activities that may be most beneficial to the mental and physical health of cancer survivors.
Participants in the study will be cancer survivors of all cancer types. We will ask participants to complete 3 surveys and 2 physical assessments while participating in 12 weeks of group fitness classes. Participants will receive a $100 gift card for completing the program. The sessions will take place 3 days a week for approximately 60 minutes per session. The program includes weight lifting, running/walking, stretching and other exercises to improve strength and cardiovascular fitness. An optional dietary program will also be offered, as will sleep health assessments.

Paying attention to what’s happening inside you….thoughts, emotions, and body sensations….in the present moment can make all the difference. With awareness, you’ll learn new and intentional responses to situations, communications, and relationships with yourself and others. The automatic and mindless reactions that are not serving you well will be replaced with new pathways leading to greater emotional, mental, and physical well-being. MBSR tools and techniques are accessible to all individuals, no matter the age and physical ability. Guided meditation, gentle movement and stretching, and small group discussion are experienced in each of the eight weekly classes.

Each week we will be discussing one of the 5 stages of grief (denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance), and ending our final session with tying the stages together. In this series, we will talk about what the stages of grief are, how they make us feel, and how we can support one another throughout the grieving process.

(Cross-Training and Physical Activity: A Better Life Experience) to better understand physical activities that may be most beneficial to the mental and physical health of cancer survivors.
Participants in the study will be cancer survivors of all cancer types. We will ask participants to complete 3 surveys and 2 physical assessments while participating in 12 weeks of group fitness classes. Participants will not receive financial compensation. The sessions will take place 3 days a week for approximately 60 minutes per session. The program includes weight lifting, running/walking, stretching and other exercises to improve strength and cardiovascular fitness. An optional dietary program will also be offered, as will sleep health assessments.

Cancer Transitions Series: Medical Management Beyond Cancer & Emotional Health & Well-Being (2 hour session)

Cancer Transitions is a free 90-minute four-week workshop designed to help cancer survivors make the transition from active treatment to post-treatment care. This workshop is led by a Master Level Social Worker and Registered Dietician Nutritionist. This workshop will cover training in relaxation, stress management and tips for nutritious eating. While each session focuses on a specific skill set and topic, group support and reflective exercises are also incorporated into every session. To gain the full benefit of this program, we ask that you commit to attending all four sessions. Light healthy snacks will be served at each session. Registration is required to attend.
