Pound! Time 11:00 AM Channel your inner rockstar with this full body cardio-jam session inspired by the fun of playing the drums. You become the music in this exhilarating workout that combines cardio, conditioning, and strength training with yoga and pilates-inspired movements. Designed for all fitness levels. Please remember to wear comfortable tennis shoes. You will also need two regular drumsticks, wooden spoons, wooden dowels or similar items that are approximately 16 inches long. Please set aside a space that allows for free movement of your arms all around your body and above your head (you will also need space for your “stix” too). Now the 1st Saturday of every month. Cap & Conquer Time 7:00 PM Cap & Conquer is a 501(c)3 nonprofit that breaks down financial and educational barriers to using scalp cooling therapy, also known as cold cap therapy, for reducing hair loss during chemotherapy. We do this by 1) raising awareness about scalp cooling as a way to reduce hair loss during cancer treatment 2) raising money to rent cold caps for cancer patients who need financial support and 3) providing support and mentorship for patients who use cold caps. Optimizing Bowel and Bladder Function Post Radiation and Chemotherapy Time 5:30 PM This presentation will be focused on managing the symptoms that are associated with bowel and bladder dysfunction that are common after radiation to pelvic region or side effects from chemotherapy. Participants that are struggling with constipation, diarrhea, incontinence, or pain with voiding will learn how to best manage these symptoms at home to optimize their quality of life. Cannabis & Cancer Time 6:00 PM My Compassion a Michigan 501(c)(3) cannabis nonprofit along with its presenters, will provide an overview of the use of Cannabis and its components as a treatment for people with cancer and related symptoms caused by the disease itself or its treatment. Learn about the basics of Cannabis and its potential risks and benefits as a therapeutic substance. Beyond the basics of THC and CBD, we will discuss other aspects of this complex plant and its constituents with their potential effects. Routes, frequency, timing, and dosing guidelines will be discussed as it pertains to treating common side effects of cancer, including chronic pain, neuropathy, nausea, anxiety, and insomnia. Hereditary Cancer: What Does Your Family Tree Look Like? Time 6:00 PM Nancie Petrucelli MS, CGC (Director, Cancer Genetic Counseling Service/Senior Genetic Counselor) of Karmanos’s Cancer Institute will be sharing the role genetics play on hereditary cancers. About 5-10% of all cancers are hereditary, meaning an increased risk of developing certain cancers is being passed down in families through their genes. Knowing if you have an inherited risk allows you and your health care providers to be more proactive about your health. It can also inform family members who may be at increased risk. Attendees of this lecture will learn about genetic testing for hereditary cancer and when it may be appropriate as well as the benefits of such testing for patients and their relatives. Urinary incontinence and Erectile Dysfunction After Prostatectomy Time 6:00 PM This participation will be focused on providing education for those who have had prostatectomy and may experience urinary incontinence or sexual dysfunction after the surgery.
