MBSR: Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Series Time 10:00 AM Paying attention to what’s happening inside you — thoughts, emotions, and body sensations — in the present moment can make all the difference. With awareness, you’ll learn new and intentional responses to situations, communications, and relationships with yourself and others. The automatic reactions that are not serving you will be replaced with new pathways, leading to greater emotional, mental, and physical well-being. MBSR tools and techniques are accessible to all individuals, no matter the age and physical ability. Guided meditation, gentle movement and stretching, and small group discussion are experienced in each of the eight weekly classes. Oncology Rehabilitation for Metastatic Cancer Time 11:00 AM Jessica Somerville from The Recovery Project, will discuss the special rehabilitation considerations for survivors living with metastatic cancer. Education and resources will be provided on topics such as chemotherapy toxicity, neuropathy, fatigue, bone health and cardiovascular function while navigating life with ongoing cancer treatment. Diamond Painting Time 10:30 AM Diamond Painting is the name of a mosaic art form in which the artist creates a painting by sticking small resins that sparkle like diamonds on a canvas that has corresponding numbers printed by all the colors of the diamonds. All the painter has to do is take a diamond and stick it onto the canvas. All the diamonds together create a beautiful painting that sparkles like real diamonds. Gilda's Club will provide all the materials needed and store your diamond painting for you, so that you can join us every Monday for a theraputic art form, and go home with a beauitful piece of art when you're done! Lunch and Chat Time 11:30 AM Join us every Monday for a light lunch and check-in with fellow Gilda's Club members. A calming art program will meet before lunch (open to any Gilda's club member) and a support group for those currently in active cancer treatment will meet after, so you can spend the day with us if you'd like! Ab Blasters for Beginners! Time 1:00 PM Lets come together and hold eachother accountable this spring to achieve our health & wellness goals! This class is a dvd-led instruction from Curtis Adams, host of the national senior exercise television series Vitality 4 Life. Every Monday, we'll play his DVD that is easy-to-follow and specifically designed for beginners and older adults seeking low impact safe and effective exercises that are fun to do! It is an invigorating age reverse workout. This Ab Blast exercise program is specifically created using low impact aerobic movements to burn calories without any jumping or jarring, strengthen and tone your entire body plus target your core with seated ab exercises (never on the floor). Living with Cancer Group Time 1:00 PM A support group for those in active treatment for a cancer diagnosis who are seeking support from others also diagnosed. This weekly support group is facilitated by a Masters level clinician.

The Gratitude Project: Sharing the Joy of Gratitude Time 11:45 AM The month of November is often a time during which we contemplate the things and people in our lives for which we are thankful. But did you know that showing gratitude is good for your health and wellbeing? Research shows that the regular practice of gratitude has a positive impact on our physical, emotional, and social wellness. This month we invite you to join a weekly gratitude project at the Lake House where we will explore and appreciate the goodness in our lives. Register for any or all of the four sessions, each week will feature a different topic for discussion. We can’t wait to share the joy of gratitude with you! Week 1 (11/5): Three good things; big or small, good things come in all kinds of packages. Week 2 (11/12): Cherished connections; the people in our lives make a big difference. Relax & Restore Yoga Time 5:00 PM Enter a state of deep relaxation and rest as you slow down and unwind in this floor-based gentle yoga class, focusing on stillness and breath. Jackie will guide you into passive poses, recommending the use of props to support you in whatever way your body needs. Research suggests that the regular practice of restorative yoga improves both psychological and physical well-being; calming the mind and helping to manage symptoms of pain and toxicity associated with cancer treatment. This practice is floor-based, and the movements are neither vigorous nor intense, however if you have concerns or questions about your ability to participate in this practice, please feel free to reach out to the Lake House for additional information. The Power of Legacy Series Time 5:00 PM Join us for an in-person workshop where we explore our own legacies, their importance and how we create them. We will work to put into words and drawings what events in our lives have impacted who we are, who we want to be, and what we will leave behind. Gilda's Club Intern and current MSW student, Mikaela, will lead members in discussion and activities surrounding our physical, emotional, and spiritual legacies. This program will be held in-person and welcomes any member ages 18+. Club Red Time 5:30 PM Volunteer opportunity for students in 9th-12th grade! Club Red is held after school once a month. Students will set their own goals and share progress on their goals. Students engage in projects to improve the lives of Gilda’s Club members impacted by cancer, have the opportunity to learn skills in community outreach, marketing, and fundraising. Young Adults Group Time 5:30 PM A support group for young adults (age 18-45) diagnosed with cancer themselves, who are seeking support and connection from other young adults, also diagnosed and walking a similar path. Holiday Basket Weaving Workshop Time 10:00 AM Back by popular demand, Gilda’s Lake House welcomes Deborah VanderLinde, PhD, aka “The Basketmak’r”. Deborah is a veteran basket weaver and instructor. She is the author of three “The Basketmak’r” pattern books and retired from a career as a music educator at Oakland University, Deborah enjoys introducing others to the creative process and craftsmanship in basketry by teaching classes throughout SE Michigan. Join Deb in her fun beginner’s class where you will be introduced to or review basic weaving techniques. In these classes you will construct a square market basket: this easy to weave basket is a perfect size for holiday decorating or gift giving. Measures: 6” x 6” x 2.5”. All materials are included. Time frame: 10am - 3pm. Participants who want to make two baskets should arrive at 10am. Participants who want to make one basket should arrive no later than 12:30pm. Mindful Strength (Fitness) Time 10:15 AM Mindful Strength is a strength training class that melds mindfulness and fitness together. You can expect to perform repetitive movements with your body, weights, and resistance bands with the goal of challenging your muscles while keeping your joints happy! Every class begins with education, a warm up, and intention setting. Each exercise is carefully selected to safely and efficiently strengthen your muscles. Indoor Wellness Walkers Time 10:30 AM Walking can be an important self-care activity for people impacted by cancer. It can help counter the effects of disease, treatment, and inactivity. This walking group will provide a therapeutic environment where people can walk, talk, and receive support. Walkers will meet at Gilda’s Club at Durfee and then walk upstairs to the gym together. Exploring Your Safe Place...Managing Anxiety Time 11:00 AM This session will begin with a mindfulness meditation, aimed at promoting relaxation and grounding techniques , followed by an art activity that allows participants to identify stressors and explore positive coping strategies. Weighted Yoga Time 10:00 AM Join us for Weighted Yoga with Cathie, a fantastic addition to your regular yoga practice. Using small hand weights, the class will begin and end like a traditional yoga class. In the middle, we will alternate between a yoga segment and an upper body weight segment, building a well rounded, full body workout. (1 and 2 pound weights can be used together to create a 3 pound set. 2 and 3 pound weights can eventually be put together to equal a 5 pound set.) Info & Registration

Jackie will guide you into passive poses, recommending the use of props to support you in whatever way your body needs. Research suggests that the regular practice of restorative yoga improves both psychological and physical well-being; calming the mind and helping to manage symptoms of pain and toxicity associated with cancer treatment. Acrylic Pour Workshop Time 5:00 PM In this art class attendees use various techniques to pour acrylic paint on canvas - can be very abstract or planned design. Using small hand weights, the class will begin and end like a traditional yoga class. In the middle, we will alternate between a yoga segment and an upper body weight segment, building a well rounded, full body workout. Relax & Restore Yoga Time 5:00 PM Enter a state of deep relaxation and rest as you slow down and unwind in this floor-based gentle yoga class, focusing on stillness and breath. Jackie will guide you into passive poses, recommending the use of props to support you in whatever way your body needs. Research suggests that the regular practice of restorative yoga improves both psychological and physical well-being; calming the mind and helping to manage symptoms of pain and toxicity associated with cancer treatment. This practice is floor-based, and the movements are neither vigorous nor intense, however if you have concerns or questions about your ability to participate in this practice, please feel free to reach out to the Lake House for additional information. Caregivers experience depression, physical ailments from either the physical demands of caregiving or its resultant stress, loss of income (that affects future Social Security income), loss of social engagement, and increasing resentfulness. Noogieland Family Play Time 4:00 PM Noogieland will be open for free play for kids 12 and under! Hang out in our beautifully hand painted kids area, with wall to wall toys after school on Wednesdays. Kids must be accompanied by an adult unless a volunteer is requested before hand, in order for the adult to attend a program upstairs. Kids cannot be left unsupervised. Info & Registration
Exploring Emotions Through Art Time 5:00 PM We are all born with the instinct to draw, create, and make art. When navigating life transitions, traumas, and events, it can hinder our creative abilities. Often times, we are unable to find the words to express why we feel, how we feel. Meet Michele Whalen, who has experience in Mental Health counseling and Art Therapy as she encourages us to embrace our emotions, and channel that power through art.
