Art Therapy For All Time 11:00 AM Art Therapist Erin Shahly, MEd, ATR, will host an interactive therapeutic art workshop. We’ll focus on self-expression and self-discovery. There is no experience necessary to participate, all are welcome. We will come together to create meaningful worksof art that will provide a creative outlet and promote relaxation. Common supplies to be used regularly will be household items such as: newspaper, magazines, tape, foil, markers, crayons, paints, glue etc. but you can use what you’ve got! Info & Registration
Simple Winter Workouts Time 11:00 AM Stay active during the winter months using supplies and equipment you already have at home. Learn full body exercises to increase strength, range of motion and endurance. Master’s level occupational therapy students from Baker College will be with us for the month of November to help promote independence through activities of daily life. Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Series Time 6:00 PM Paying attention to what’s happening inside you….thoughts, emotions, and body sensations….in the present moment can make all the difference. With awareness, you’ll learn new and intentional responses to situations, communications, and relationships with yourself and others. The automatic and mindless reactions that are not serving you well will be replaced with new pathways leading to greater emotional, mental, and physical well-being. MBSR tools and techniques are accessible to all individuals, no matter the age and physical ability. Guided meditation, gentle movement and stretching, and small group discussion are experienced in each of the eight weekly classes. Yoga Breathing Workshop Time 6:00 PM Retired plastic surgeon and cancer survivor Dr. Lakshmi Saleem is a certified Yoga instructor who is passionate about the therapeutic application of the philosophy of Yoga. She will be introducing us to the healing practice of gentle Yoga; breathing exercises (Pranayama) to improve the lung capacity and to boost immunity; and meditation: to heal from the inside out, reduce stress and to inspire a joyful, meaningful life. These Ayurvedic techniques have been used for thousands of years in India to manage the flow of energy through the body. Please join us for this fascinating and educational talk. Info & Registration

Anxiety & Cancer Time 6:00 PM This lecture will cover some of the emotional risks associated with significant life changes and threats to survival like cancer. We will break down why things like depression, anxiety, and stress occur- but more importantly how to cope with it. Coping is a key factor in not only accepting situations, but also adapting to a new normal and retaining your self-esteem, happiness, and strength. This lecture will focus mostly on how to be more intentional about developing strong and effective coping skills and prioritizing the things we value to keep us healthy and happy- even in the midst of a devastating disease like cancer. Self-compassion is the grounds for emotional healing, and extending compassion to others is the medicine for relieving suffering in our world. POUND Fitness Time 6:30 PM Channel your inner rockstar with this full body cardio-jam session inspired by the fun of playing the drums. You become the music in this exhilarating workout that combines cardio, conditioning, and strength training with yoga and pilates-inspired movements. Designed for all fitness levels. Please remember to wear comfortable tennis shoes. You will also need two regular drumsticks, wooden spoons, wooden dowels or similar items that are approximately 16 inches long. Please set aside a space that allows for free movement of your arms all around your body and above your head (you will also need space for your “stix” too). Now the 1st Saturday of every month. Working Through Grief During the Holidays Time 5:30 PM If you are facing the holidays with a heavy heart, join us for this encouraging talk. Grief is a normal, necessary and healthy process to overcome any loss. While nothing can speed up this process, there are lots of ways we inadvertently prolong recovery and perhaps make it harder on ourselves. Creating a Calm Holiday Time 6:00 PM Discover what matters most to you and yours about the holidays: FAITH, MAGIC, CONNECTION, ABUNDANCE and/or HERITAGE. The Holiday Constellation chart you create will provide invaluable insight for understanding potential pressure points ahead of time, accommodating clashes of ideas, and finding new ways to delight those you care about and yourself! Art Therapy For All Time 11:00 AM Art Therapist Erin Shahly, MEd, ATR, will host an interactive therapeutic art workshop. We’ll focus on self-expression and self-discovery. There is no experience necessary to participate, all are welcome. We will come together to create meaningful worksof art that will provide a creative outlet and promote relaxation. Common supplies to be used regularly will be household items such as: newspaper, magazines, tape, foil, markers, crayons, paints, glue etc. but you can use what you’ve got! Info & Registration
Strategies for Neuropathy Time 11:00 AM Are you having trouble playing your string instrument or performing yoga? This class will focus on strategies to adapt mobility and improve engagement in your everyday activities. Q and A session to follow, so bring your questions. Master’s level occupational therapy students from Baker College will be with us for the month of November to help promote independence through activities of daily life. If you have been in treatment and had to relearn or modify certain activities, or have had memory issues, these classes may be beneficial. All are welcome. Info & Registration

Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Series Time 6:00 PM Paying attention to what’s happening inside you….thoughts, emotions, and body sensations….in the present moment can make all the difference. With awareness, you’ll learn new and intentional responses to situations, communications, and relationships with yourself and others. The automatic and mindless reactions that are not serving you well will be replaced with new pathways leading to greater emotional, mental, and physical well-being. MBSR tools and techniques are accessible to all individuals, no matter the age and physical ability. Guided meditation, gentle movement and stretching, and small group discussion are experienced in each of the eight weekly classes. NIA Time 10:00 AM NIA is sensory-based movement practice that draws from martial arts, dance arts and yoga. This Workshop includes a unique combination of 52 moves that correspond with the main areas of the body. The movements in Nia have been shown to re-program neuropathways and increase mobility, stability, flexibility, and perception. Info & Registration
Tai Chi Time 11:00 AM Tai Chi is a Chinese martial arts practice that is gentle, non-strenuous, and has proven health benefits which include muscle strength, flexibility, and balance. Led by licensed instructor Martine Salane. Info & Registration
Afternoon Meditation Time 12:00 PM Terri Koster will be facilitating a weekly meditation workshop in Gilda’s Club Metro Detroit’s Virtual World. This workshop will include guided meditation, pranayama (breath-work), alternate nostril breathing, energy clearing and chakra balancing meditations.
